« Thread started on: Aug 1st, 2009, 2:00pm »

My thoughts:

View : Third Person Top Down
Movement : Point and Click
Battles : Turn Based with Hud

Details :

Online (At a later date), Full trading system, Level-Enemy-Item editor (For easy updating), Leveling System (Duh), 2D (Because loading models in B4gl is hell)

Notes :

I say we compile our ideas here the finalize them in a design document which will be edited when new ideas are decided upon. (Just to make production run smoothly.)

Now I'm going to do som research on B4gl and see if I can correct those images of mine.

Beginning Framework now Aug 1, 2009

And crap I failed... Lol. You probably want to move this because its for B4gl currently... Lol. My bad.

What Should we do for artwork? I could do some tileable sprites and stuff. What do you think?

Sounds like a good start. If you want to make the sprite images I can start building the base program or at least try).

Cool, I'll start looking at the Data and Read function to build the tilemap when you are done.

Ok so I currently have 18 tiles of 32x32 done for thached roofs, grass, and grass paths. Heres the link to those. (I didn't combine them into an image strip because I wasnt sure if you wanted them seperate or not) http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=d35b801b657da0be7432d3c9683f450a33e072991b1bd795b8eada0a1ae8665a I've started working on water and trees. Tell me what you think.

Wow, the images look great... I will work to setup a basic tilemap that we can change as needed. I will post the code once done.

Quick question. Would it be possible to make the images into a strip file? As an example, look at the caverntiles.png file that came with Basic4GL (X:\Basic4GL\Programs\Data). If its not possible, no big deal we will figure a way to work around it.

I just created a Tilemap with Sprite as a base to work with. I have compiled it into a single EXE for you to download if you like. Let me know if this is what you are looking for.

Currently is uses the arrow keys instead of mouse for movement, but I am working on changing that over.

http://cid-01d22ff5f48be598.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Basic4GL%20Game%20Project?uc=1&nl=1

Code:
dim spritex, spritey, shipTex, sprite

spritex = 320
spritey = 240

textmode(text_buffered)

Very Nice. Ran quite well. I got a few more updates comming with the graphics and right now i'm thinking about writing a quick pixel shader (Mabey) to add 'lights' to the game adding a bit of realism. but that may take a while and I dont have Visual C here so I'll have to wait till I get home. But very nice. I'm texting good layouts for controls. Trying to get it simple but quite in depth. But still awesome. Once I get home I'll start trying to write a pixel shader. Peace -Alovon

Its all good. Oh and the pixel shader is a fail... well sort of that will have to come at a later date. Once you put up the next code block I'll take a look at it and see if I can implement them point and click deal. And yes I can convert the bmp's to strips no prob. Also. what other tiles do you think will be needed?

Ok so I compiled the tiles into a large strip. Tell me if this is what you are looking for. I think I did a fairly decent job.

Strip File:
http://www.mediafire.com/?nwenyqwn2dw

I am currently adding new tiles and beginning basic character sprites. Please let me know what needed.

Ok heres where I currently am. Im starting on a few in game sprites. You know like thf F117 sprite you used, but with people. So my thoughts are simple we have a base person and you add the diffrent hair and weapons on top without modifying the sprite. I will attempt to implement this when I get the next updated tile map. This would allow people to customize their character really easily. Also adds a bit of extra coding but it would take years to do all of the sprites with the alternative method so thata a no go. And Im still doing the tile maps I just felt that we may need characters and objects to help us see what the game will eventualy look like. More tiles (and sprites) to come in the next project pdate file.
